Leonardo Di Caprio’s career seems to go in fits and starts. Last year was definitely a start for him with the release of Inception and Shutter Island – both movies which received great critical acclaim. From Oscar®-winning director Martin Scorsese, Shutter Island is the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
Now ridiculously cheap at £2.99, if you don’t own it already then now is the time to remedy that.

Hugh Laurie certainly hit the big time as caustic but brilliant Doctor House solving medical conundrums with equal measures of genius and sarcasm. Emmy award winning and still going strong (now into its 8th season), you can buy the complete fourth season on DVD from Amazon for only £5.99. Which is so cheap I think I’m having a heart attack. Season 1
A love story in reverse: How I Met Your Mother is a fresh new comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. When Ted’s best friends Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) decide to tie the knot, it sparks the search for his own Miss Right. Helping him in his quest is his bar-hopping “wing-man” Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with plenty of wild schemes for picking up women. Ted’s sights are set on the charming and independent Robin (Cobie Smulders), but destiny may have something different in mind. Told through a series of flashbacks,Ted recalls his single days, the highs and lows of dating and the search for true love.
Season 2
The woman of his dreams is out there–the question is, who is she? Told in a series of flashbacks, How I Met Your Mother is the hilariously unpredictable story of how twenty-something Ted meets his soul mate and says goodbye to the singles world of pick-up lines, one-night stands, and relationship “deal-breakers.” With friends Marshall and Lily’s wedding fast approaching, the outrageously inappropriate Barney remains a consummate bachelor, while Ted’s romance with Robin heats up–but is she really the one for him? Things have a funny way of working out in this delightfully fresh and fast-paced comedy.

If I’m totally honest I gave up on the Fast & Furious series a few years ago, but here we have the fifth installment which appears to be as popular at the box office as ever (probably thanks to the return of Vin Diesel in F&F4), and perhaps unsurprisingly Universal Pictures have announced that they aren’t going to kill this particular cash cow just yet with the announcement that Fast and Furious 6 will hit cinemas in 2013.
Former cop Brian O’Conner partners with ex-con Dom Toretto on the opposite side of the law. Since Brian and Mia Toretto broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey… before someone else runs them down first.
Released on Blu-ray and DVD this week Fast & Furious: Rio Heist is available for as little as £9.99 on DVD and £15.00 for the Triple Play Blu-ray Edition.

Vampires have been reinvented for the teenage market over the last few years. With the success of the Twilight Series at the Cinema, the Vampire Diaries picks up the mantle for the small screen and has proven itself remarkably popular, thanks largely to the the involvement of Kevin Williamson, the man responsible for writing such teen hits as Scream and Dawsons Creek. Based upon the work of LJ Smith, Williamson is also converting the Secret Circle (a novel about teenage witches) for television which is sure to be a big hit as well.
Season 2 is released on DVD and Blu-ray this week, just in time for Season 3 to start being screened in the USA. I have to confess I haven’t seen it myself, but my teenage daughter loves it, so it must be good?

The Summer holidays are over and its time to start breathing some new life into the old blog. With September taking hold and the nights starting to draw in a DVD seems all the more tempting, so it would be remiss of us to stop updating altogether. So with that in mind and a new daily posting schedule planned lets get started.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently you’ll know about the immensely popular E4 comedy The Inbetweeners. In case you don’t then its a downright, crude look at teenage life with the 4 main characters Will, Simon, Jay & Neil – none of whom are cool enough to fit in with the cool kids and neither are they nerdy enough to be completely written off a geeks. Rather they are something in between, hence the name the Inbetweeners.
The Inbetweeners Movie has been released over the summer and it has proved to be a smash hit. If you want an introduction to this strange world of inappropriate vomiting on children, inappropriate fish punching and not to mention the inappropriate catch phrases (which I won’t reprint here) then head over to 4od and watch online.

This latest Doctor Who boxset is something of a Peculiar one. Featuring 2 distinctly different classic tales and 2 Doctors who are poles apart (William Hartnell and Peter Davidson). What the connection is between these two I can only guess at. The Hartnell Story (‘The Gunfighters’) takes place on the eve of the Gunfight at the OK corral and sees the Doctor being mistaken for Doc Holliday and getting embroiled in the most legendary gunfight of the old west.
The other story sees Peter Davidson’s Doctor landing on a modern day Earth on a visit to Tegan’s grandfather. There they find the village inhabitants are bing controlled by a dastardly Alien Entity called Malus.
