Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D – £5.99

January 26th, 2009

Cheap DVDs.Journey to the Centre of the Earth.jpg This one found its way into the kids Christmas stocking last year so we’ve watched this as a family. Sadly though the inclusion of only 2 sets of 3D specs meant we couldn’t all (there are 4 of us) sit and watch the 3D version. Thankfully the movie came with the 2D edition as well so we were able to watch that. It was enjoyable enough and the plot which centre’s around Brendan Fraser search for his missing brother, is a reasonable effort to introduce today’s generation of kids to the Classic Jules Verne Novel from which the Movie takes its name (although that is where the similarity ends).

The L Word Season 4 £17.99

January 21st, 2009

Cheap DVD. The Word Season 4.jpg The L Word Season 4. No idea what this is about. At. All.

This is what the blurb says:

This drama follows an ensemble cast of characters who represent multiple facets of the lesbian lifestyle, but enact very human dramas that anyone can relate to. At the centre is Jenny (Mia Kirshner, EXOTICA), who moved to a hip L.A. neighbourhood to be with her boyfriend, a swim coach. Immediately swept up in the lesbian community, Jenny begins to question the heterosexuality she has always taken for granted, while the lives and loves of those around her play themselves out in sometimes humorous, sometimes painful, ways. In the fourth series, Jenny suffers personal setbacks in her rising career as a writer, and Bette (Jennifer Beals, FLASHDANCE) begin a job in academia where she faces a tough new boss (Cybill Shepherd, LAST PICTURE SHOW) who has a secret. Meanwhile, Tina (Laurel Holloman, CHERRY) navigates shared custody of her child with Bette, while an upcoming film project strains her relationship with Jenny.

Nope. None the wiser….

Cloverfield £2.99

January 20th, 2009

Ok now that the business of upgrading the website theme is out of the way I can switch focus back to the whole reason for the site existing in the first place.

Cheap DVDs.Cloverfield.jpg Last years shaky camera hit about a monster attack on poor old New York City. Cloverfield was hailed as one of the most exciting and frightening sci-fi horrors of the last decade.

A wobbly-rollercoaster ride that weaves its rickety way through darkened subways and exploding skyscrapers to avoid the powerful, terrifying and destructive force that has New York City under attack. Matt Reeves’ monster-horror combines suspense, terror and explosions within its sudden, claustrophobic, and tension-filled scenes of desperate New Yorkers struggling to stay alive.

Sounds great, sadly I haven seen it yet, but I’ve definitely got my order in at Play now that they have reduced the the price to a mere £2.99

Welcome to the all new DVD Bargain Alerts

January 19th, 2009

A little later than I had anticipated, but welcome to the new look DVD Bargain Alerts. We’re 3 weeks into 2009 and while I had hoped to refresh the look of the site a little sooner, but better late than never springs to mind.

The old theme was always a little rough around the edges and was starting to grate on me a little hence the change. I’ve cut out a lot of the redundant pages and features that seemed like a good idea at the time. The forum has gone – a difficult decision to make since the forum was the mainstay of the site when it was created back in 2006, but since hardly anyone has posted there over the last 12 months it was clearly time to say goodbye, that and the fact that adapting this skin for use on the forum was going to delay the go live date for too long a time.

The main features are still intact. The Price Comparison has been enhanced with the inclusion of a DVD Boxset search and I have added a couple of widgets to highlight popular searches throughout the site along with top 10 lists from Amazon for the majority of categories. Also you’ll notice that when searching titles I’ve added the ‘Best Price’ column to let you know whether an Item is worth clicking or not.

So there you have it. Hope you like the new look, and lets hope for a new year of great bargains.

Doctor Who – The Next Doctor £9.98 Pre-order

January 7th, 2009

Cheap Doctor Who DVD.The Next Doctor.jpg Ok so not actually the Next Doctor, the honour of filling the not inconsiderable boots of David Tennant has fallen to relative unknown Matt Smith, but still an intriguing enough adventure to engage the family’s interest this Christmas Day. With the Doctor landing in Victorian London on Christmas Eve in 1851, he quickly encounters a man who calls himself ‘The Doctor’. But is he? With the other Doctor seriously lacking in recall of events from his past the pair must combine forces to defeat the ruthless Miss Hartigan and the Cybermen. But are two Doctors enough?

Along with the latest Christmas adventure, this DVD features Doctor Who At The Proms. Filmed at the BBC Proms in July, this musical odyssey through time and space is hosted by Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones) and features a surprise guest appearance by Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) and the specially filmed scene starring David Tennant. With the Tardis on stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall

Happy new year everybody. After a brief hiatus over the Christmas period its time to get back down to business and post a few more bargains. And what better way to start the year than with Gavin & Stacy. I’d only been dimly aware of this series over the last 18 months, although it has had a big cult following on BBC3. I caught up with the entire story in the run up to Christmas and liked it so much I thought it was worth a mention.

Series 2 is a bit more expensive at £11.98 again from Amazon ( Compare Prices of Gavin and Stacy Series 2 here )
