Twilight, shmilight. Tru Blood is where its at if you are fancying a superbly crafted vampire tale. I was hooked on this when it first aired on FX over here, right from the opening titles it just seduces you with a decadent portrayal of live in the deep south. The series has been created by Alan Ball (who brought us Six Feet Under), and is based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris.
The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called Tru Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have made their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar ‘Merlotte’s’ which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

Rhod’s “mince pie” experience starts at a service station somewhere in the UK at around 2.40am. He is forced to except he may be having a very mild nervous breakdown when he finds himself aggressively demanding to know more about an ‘award-winning mince pie’ on display in the corner. He doesn’t even like mince pies. You may have seen him on shows such as Mock The Week and Live At the Apollo. Great for a Christmas stocking filling!

Released Today (16th November), JJ Abrams Reboot of the Star Trek Franchise was a resounding success, (not least because of the casting of Simon Pegg as Scotty). I’ve never considered myself a Trekkie but this is the first Star Trek Movie since wrath of Kahn that I have actually enjoyed and will go out of my way to watch.
This one goes back in time the to chronicle the adventures of Kirk, Spock and the rest of crew in their Starfleet Academy days, successfully toying with the backstory (even re-writing it in places), and creating a rip-roaring adventure with spectacular special effects. Star Trek XI is a must own for any Star Trek Fans, young and old.

Due for release on 30th November, Orphan is one the most creepiest of horror genres, the Spooky Kid! Lets face it, a spooky kid with a pale complexion, unusually straight hair and a piercing gaze is enough to give anyone the creeps, shes probably even got her own Spooky music.
When a young couple tragically lose their unborn child they naturally decide to adopt another (I’m assuming here that they cant just try for another child the natural way). So they pop along to the local orphanage (we’ve all got one havent we), where they find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl called Esther (Spooky name!). Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there’s something wrong with Esther – this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther’s sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late… for everyone.
Actually this has been very well received and is definitely worth a look i think. I’ll probably be adding it to my Xmas list.
