Casino Royale (Blu-ray) £4.98

January 7th, 2010

James Bond goes to a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro in Casino Royale, to square off against terrorist banker Le Chiffre, an international loan shark who gambles with the money of his equally dangerous clients.  British Treasury representative Vesper Lynd supplies Bond’s with his own funds and appears on his arm in Montenegro.  M is as always keeping a close watch on the action from headquarters. Another great Bond movie and well worth a watch at this unbelievable price.

True Blood Season 1 Bluray £24.99 at Bang CD

November 26th, 2009

Tru Blood Season 1.Bluray.jpgThanks to Cheap Bluray Movies for this one:

Twilight, shmilight. Tru Blood is where its at if you are fancying a superbly crafted vampire tale. I was hooked on this when it first aired on FX over here, right from the opening titles it just seduces you with a decadent portrayal of live in the deep south. The series has been created by Alan Ball (who brought us Six Feet Under), and is based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris.

The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called Tru Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have made their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar ‘Merlotte’s’ which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

Cars Disney Blu-Ray £9.99

March 25th, 2009

Owen Wilson does the voice of arrogant rookie racecar Lightning McQueen, who winds up stranded in the small desert town of Radiator Springs on his way west to a big showdown. Sentenced to community service after literally tearing up the road in a high-speed chase, at first all Lightning can think of is getting back to the world of corporate sponsorship and merchandising tie-ins he loves so well. Eventually, however, the eccentric residents of Radiator Springs begin to grow on him, especially the attractive lady Porsche lawyer (Bonnie Hunt) and a rusty old tow-truck (Larry the Cable Guy).

A great movie for the whole family!

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army – Collector’s Edition

October 13th, 2008

Cheap DVDs. Hellboy 2.jpgThis is an odd one, the price comparison of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army shows the cheapest price for the bog standard Special Edition is £12.99 at HMV, with Play offering it for sale for £15.99 (Which is quite expensive, especially when you can pick up the Blu-ray edition for £13.99, also from HMV. What struck me as odd though was the fact the Play have listed this ‘Hellboy 2: The Golden Army 2 Disc Collectors Edition DVD‘ featuring a Lenticular Sleeve Exclusive To Play! for only £9.99.

Now, do I buy the Blu-ray or the Collectors Edition…? Decisions, decisions.
