HDandDVDBargains Monthly Prize Draw

October 8th, 2008

Some of you may be aware that (along with the legendary Wilko) I part own www.hdanddvdbargains.com. Formerly CD and DVD Bargains, its a popular community driven site with the emphasis firmly on the forum rather than the blog format that DVD Bargain Alerts has adopted. There are similarities between the two sites of course (not least of which are the Price Comparison and Pricewatch features both of which have been shamelessly lifted from DVD Bargain Alerts itself), but its strength definitely lies in the volume of loyal returning visitors who help make the site what it is.

To reward these members and to encourage new members to post, HD and DVD Bargains has partnered with Play.com who are kindly contributing a prize which will be awarded monthly to one valued contributor to the forum. This month the Prize is Angelina Jolie in Wanted. Based upon Mark Millar’s explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov – creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series – Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice.

For details of how to be in with a chance of winning a prize like this every month then Visit HD and DVD Bargains to find out more.

Ps3 Price Comparison on PS3lite.co.uk

April 5th, 2008

Cheap PS3.PS3 Lite.jpg
This morning I am pleased to announce the launch www.ps3lite.co.uk – a sister site to DVD Bargain Alerts. I originally registered this domain in February on the Back of T3’s announcement that Sony could well be going to announce the launch of a slinky new Lite Version of the PS3. At the moment though this looks about as likely as an MP paying his own TV License (although thats not to say there wont be one released further down the line), so I decided to develop the domain along the same lines as DBA, adding price comparison and I’ll be keeping abreast of the latest PS3 Bargains and Sales too. So if you’ve got a PlayStation 3 then feel free to pop along, any suggestions of what you’d like to see on the site will be welcomed as well.

New Server

March 21st, 2008

Ok, I mentioned yesterday that the site was in the process of migrating to a new server. That process is largely complete now, although there are still one or two teething problems – most notable being the contact page is broken. I’ll try an get that fixed over the weekend. If you were trying to access the site this morning then you might have noticed some odd things happening – thanks for bearing with us. The new server should prove to be faster and more reliable than the previous one, plus it means I can now add some more stores to storewatch and update it on a daily basis as was always the intention.

In the meantime heres a quick roundup of the Easter Sales at the moment:

HD and DVD Bargains

October 21st, 2007

HD and DVD BargainsMany of you may not be aware of this, but DVD Bargain Alerts is the sister site of HD and DVD Bargains, a thriving community driven forum and bargain hunting site designed to let you interact with fellow bargain hunters and keep up to date with the latest breaking entertainment bargains on the net. Formerly CD and DVD Bargains, the CD was dropped in favour of the upcoming HD video formats and the site relaunched as HD and DVD Bargains, with new forum software and a shiny new skin. The active forum is a welcoming place for new members and is always open to those who have found a bargain or two of their own and feel it just has to be posted (and don’t forget we have a Bargain Forum on DVD Bargain Alerts too). As well as the forum, it also sports the now mandatory DVD, CD and Video price comparison facility as well as pricewatch, and thanks to the energy of one Johnny Wilkinson (no not the fly half) the site continues to grow and evolve on an almost daily basis, a fact most recently marked by the introduction of a Mobile Phone Comparison service. Additionally the weekly newsletter contains an invaluable roundup of whats going on and is currently read by over 5000 recipients a week.

So why not pop along, register and say hi. I’ll look forward to seeing you there.

Time For Change

October 3rd, 2007

Ok here it is, the new look DVD Bargain Alerts. I know a lot of you have been complaining about how drab and dated the old site looked, so I finally decided to do something about it. So far I have switched the CMS for the front page. We’re using wordpress now instead of the clunky old Content manager we used to have. This will make it easier to post bargains on the front page of the site , rather than relying on the automation introduced by the storewatch facility which we’ve had for the past six months. In addition I have enhanced the Pricewatch facility so registered pricewatch users now have full update capability for their pricewatch accounts and you can pricewatch CDs and Video Games as well as DVDs. The only drawback is the forum, its not fully integrated with wordpress at the moment, but I hope to be able to make it look more integrated in the coming weeks, so if you notice an foibles while online, dont worry too much its probably just me messing about.
