The kids love a good Christmas movie in our house, especially on Christmas Eve, when its become a kind of tradition for us all to sit around with the TV with some home cooked festive fair courtesy of my wife. This year I thought I’d look early and and found this boxset to keep the tradition going. Containing all 3 Santa Clause movies, and a definite favourite with the kids for only £9.98.
The Santa Clause: It’s the night before Christmas when toy salesman Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) finds himself in an awkward predicament. The real Santa Claus has fallen off his roof and his “emergency card” instructs Scott to take his place. But by putting on the Santa suit, Scott unknowingly accepts all the responsibilities of the rosy-cheeked legend. With his young son by his side, Scott starts a comical new life of weight gain, beard growth, narrow chimneys and elves with attitude!
The Santa Clause 2: Santa’s got problems and things quickly go south when he finds out that his son, Charlie, has landed on this year’s “naughty” list. Desperate to help his son, Scott heads back home, leaving a substitute Claus to watch over things at the Pole. But when the substitute redefines naughty and nice, putting Christmas at risk, it’s up to Scott to return with a new bag of magic to try to save Christmas!
The Santa Clause 3: Tim Allen reprises his role of Scott Calvin-aka Santa as he juggles a full house of family and the mischievous Jack Frost (Martin Short), whose chilling Santa envy has him trying to take over the “big guy’s” holiday. At the risk of giving away its secret location, Scott invites his in-laws, Sylvia and Bud Newman (Ann-Margret and Alan Arkin) to the North Pole to share in the holiday festivities and be near their daughter, Carol (Elizabeth Mitchell)-aka Mrs. Claus- as she prepares for the eagerly anticipated birth of baby Claus.
Whats this a new Shrek Movie in time for Christmas? Well not quite, Shrek the Halls is a Half hour animated made for TV Special featuring all the characters we know and love from the Original Shrek Trilogy. Obviously cashing in on the festive season, but hey at £5.98 you cant really go wrong. If it keeps the kids happy while I’m preparing the Xmas dinner then so be it.
Shrek wants the perfect Christmas for him and his family but he has no clue how to do it. He buys a book on how to do Christmas perfectly and everything is going well, Until donkey and gang decide to intrude that is….
Its that time of year again. The Annual Disney BOGOF offer starts today and a lot of the usual suspects are running with offer, while at the same time upping their prices to £15 for one DVD. I guess this is to be expected, after all that still works out at around £7.50 per dvd doesn’t it - still a bargain.
Surprisingly though, Amazon aren’t following this trend and are currently offering the likes of
Enchanted - £11.98
Cars - £10.97
Nemo - £8.97
Ratatouille - £12.97
Meet The Robinsons - £4.98
Toy Story - £9.97
Toy Story 2 - £9.97
Chicken Little - £4.48
Some very good prices there when you consider yu are getting 2 for the price of 1.
The Complete First Series of this quirky comedy (drama?) about a Pie Maker called Ned with the ability to be bring dead people back to life has been reduced to only £12.47 at Amazon.co.uk. Starring Anna Friel as the Pie Makers dead girlfriend, resurrected by the Pie Maker after she meets a sticky end on board a cruise ship, the pair team up with fast-talking private investigator Emerson and set about solving murders the easy way. By waking up the victims and asking them who did it.
And as an extra bonus, the DVD contains one extra episode. When the series was aired on ITV they missed 1 episode for reasons best known to themselves.
Amazon have finally reduced the Series 1-3 boxset of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. In a series that blends scfi drama with comprehensive characterisation and social commentary, covering issues such as terrorism and civil liberties. This is the re-working of the cult series from the 1970s; beefed up with a new cast and more devious bad guys, Androids called Cylons have massacred billions of people, leaving only a small group of survivors. Led by Oscar nominees Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, the human fleet searches for a mythical planet called Earth as they evade the Cylons. Features the first three series of the show.
Amazon have been running a buy one HD-DVD get one free offer this weekend. They’ve got some great titles at great prices to start with, but when you combine it with buy one get on free then there’s some fantastic bargains to be had.
The first season of the Emmy award-winning American TV series Dexter follows the exploits of Dexter Morgan, a Psycopath with a moral code. Orphaned at age 4, Dexter is adopted by a police officer who recognises the boys sociopathic tendencies and realises that he cant suppress the urges his son might have, but he can divert them. He teaches Dexter a Moral Code and insists that he only indulge his cravings on those that deserve it. Working for the Miami police department as a blood spatter analyst sees Dexter Ideally placed to identify exactly those kinds of victims. Dexter focuses on capturing the heinous perpetrators (including a child molesting-murderer and a drunk driver with a trail of bodies in his wake), and dispatches them with clinical precision, thus making him a serial killer who murders serial killers.
This box set features all 12 episodes from the show’s first season. Extras include audio commentary on two episodes, a featurette about real-life blood spatter analysis, and a variety of DVD-ROM items.
Amazon are having a Stock Clearance Sale with up to 75% of DVDs. Not your usual tat either, some very good prices in my opinion. It appears that Amazon are overstocked on a lot of stuff so they are having their very own ‘Everything Must Go sale’ until 8th Jun 2008. Plenty of time to bag a bargain there then.
Follow the adventures of Dean and Sam as they take to battling demons and spooks in a bid to find their father and discover what happened to their mother many years ago, when they were little ‘uns. Despite the myriad of gruesome and spooky otherworldly creatures they encounter, including vampires, ghosts and witches, theres a distinctly comic book feel to this series, making it more Buffy the Vampire Slayer than the X-files. Entertaining rather than scary, and if you believe the ads on ITV2 - quite sexy as well. Don’t see it myself. But the box looks quite nice.
Have you ever listened to the James Bond Theme while driving your car? I was driving to work one day last week and for some reason Chris Moyles was playing on Radio 1. Very dangerous. I immediately felt like the coolest guy on the road and noticed the speedo creeping up above my normal driving speed (of course I always stick to the speed limit..). I swear I was not far away from pulling a handbrake turn into the carpark, but thankfully I came to my senses just in time. Anyway, as a footnote to this I thought you might like to know that Amazon are selling the Ultimate Editions Boxset for only £64.97 - Next best price is currently £158 so that qualifies as a bargain in my book.
